Health Technologies and Healthy Nutrition: The Role of Clusters 12thof April 2019 in Kaunas

LAMMC introduced NovelBaltic project during the event. The event was organized by the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology, Lithuanian innovation center, National Food cluster and iVita wellness cluster. There were 180 participants during the event (scientists, representatives from private companies, farmers, students and etc.).

Vitafood Europe 7.-9.5.2019 in Geneva

Leena Favén participated Vitafood exhibition in May. Antioxidant capacity measurement is becoming more and more important for the business.

OKRA farm fair 3.-6.7.2019

NovelBaltic team (Tatu Viitasaari from the Finnish Forest Center, Eveliina Kuorikoski from Centria) participated in the OKRA farm fair.

OKRA is one of the largest farm fairs in Finland. It gathers hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors to a small country village Oripää in South-Western Finland on the 3th to 6th of July 2019. The fair is held at the local airfield every second year and this time it is the 19th in its history. OKRA  is showing the latest innovations of agriculture and energy technology.

Information about the NovelBaltic project was shared during the fair. To draw people's interest, a lottery was held, where people needed to name wild plants and berries from Finland's nature. This attracted a lot of people to the stand and gave a lot of attention to the project. The farm fair had a total of 26 100 visitors.

Ollikkala farm fair in Kannus in August 2019

NovelBaltic project was presented at Ollikkala farm fair in Kannus in August 2019. In the event, information about the project was shared and brochures distributed. Ollikkala farm fair attracted a lot of local people to the event and brought a lively buzz to the stand.

Öjeby farm fair in Piteå Sweden, August 2019

NovelBaltic project was presented at Öjeby farm fair in Piteå in August 2019. The fair attracted 800 visitors.

2nd Food Chemistry Conference in Seville, Spain on Sept 17th – Sept 19th 2019

University of Latvia participated in the 2nd Food Chemistry Conference in Seville, Spain (organized by Elsevier) on Sept 17th – Sept 19th 2019 and presented the following poster:

SuperHyvä – Development forum of wellness products 19.9.2019 in Seinäjoki

Eveliina Kuorikoski from Centria Chemistry and Bioeconomy Team participated in the development forum of wellness products at Seinäjoki. This forum was organized by Foodwest Oy and project SuperHyvä. In the event, experts of the field presented the current super food and cosmetics trends at VitaFoodEurope 2019 and Natural & Organic Products Europe 2019. Also, extrusion, fermentation and extraction were presented as manufacturing methods of food products.

 

 

Eväitä kasvuun webinar at Aalto university in September 2019

The webinar was organized by the Finnish Forest Center. Findings from the study trip to Beijing and Shanghai were presented at the webinar.

45th Micro&Nano Engineering Conference (MNE) in Rhodes on Sept 23rd – Sept 26th 2019 

Kaunas University of Technology participated in the 45th Micro&Nano Engineering Conference (MNE) in Rhodes on Sept 23rd – Sept 26th 2019 and presented the following posters:

 A silicon membrane-silver nanoparticles SERS chip for trace molecules detection

 

 

 Authentication of Bilberries by Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

 

 

Research seminar and Natural products day 5-6.11.2019 in Kajaani

Eveliina Kuorikoski, Leif Hed and Leena Favén from Centria Chemistry and Bioeconomy Team and Emmi Alakärppä and Heikki Salo from University of Oulu participated in research seminar and natural products day at Kajaani. Research seminar included presentations about different research topics and projects of plants and plant-based products. There were many presentations of lingonberries and bilberries and their effective compounds, but also research of pine, mushrooms and nettle were introduced.

In the Natural products day, presentations from business perspective were held. Presentations brought up challenges in the field of natural products, but also gave tools to improve and expand the field. NovelBaltic project was displayed at the events by posters and flyers and gained a lot of interest.

Material Week – Open day in Kokkola 9.11.–14.11.2019

Material Week is an international conference event in Kokkola. It offers presentations about current research and development prospects in chemical, bio-economy and mineral economy sectors and functions as a major networking event for industry. Open day Kokkola is the opening and family event of the material week. Centria demonstrated their knowledge about natural products in the event by measuring antioxidant capacity of commercial berry juices. The demonstration attracted many people to the stand to talk about Finnish berries and plants. NovelBaltic project was introduced at the event and leaflets distributed. Aalto university students presented their feasibility study “Essential oils from selected plants” at the international Kokkola Material Week in November 2019.

Nordic Organic Food Fair 13-14.11.2019

Eveliina Kuorikoski from Centria Chemistry and Bioeconomy Team participated in Nordic Organic Food Fair in Malmö. There were many exhibitors at the fair presenting their wellness products (cosmetics, nutrients, supplements) and healthier food choices (snacks, bars, drinks, foods). Current food trends were identified along with the need for quality verification. The quality verification is the factor, that can show to the consumer, which products are authentic and which simply contain claims and slogans about effective compounds.
